Garrin: Blacksmith, Sniper, Future Pilot!

Welcome back to yet another blog post! Ok, right off the rip, I messed up last week! I wrote the blog ahead of time, saved it, and then… totally forgot to publish it. Whoops! It will definitely maybe not happen again probably…

ANYWHO! We’re back with yet another blog post on Garrin, the third member of Harmonizer’s hero trio! While Vianna is the berserker powerhouse and Feera is the smart alchemist, Garrin fills a more middle roll as a smooth talker who can hold his own in a fight, but, more importantly, shoot his way out of most problems. With a slingshot. Let’s get into it!

Life in Ankila

Like Vianna and Feera, Garrin calls Ankila home! For those who did not read the prior posts, Ankila is a desert city built onto a horseshoe-shaped mountain. The environment is quite harsh and not for the faint of heart, but Ankila manages to thrive thanks to its immense mining operation! Occupying the heart of the city, Ankila’s mines are the city’s lifeblood. Trade comes into the city through the sale of raw minerals, and a huge portion of the city is employed here. Not all of the supplies go out of the city, however.

On the ridges of the mountains surrounding the mining pit, one can find the many buildings and homes of Ankila! The streets are lively and full of merchants as well as miners making their way to and from their work places. These streets are dusty, but well kept, and one can find a wide variety of goods well suited to desert life. On the western side of the city on a cliff overlooking the mining pit, however, one can find a thriving blacksmith community!

With so much raw minerals in the area, it only makes sense that a blacksmithing community develop. There are numerous forges and smithies that call Ankila home, and these forges are well equipped. Most of them are reinforced with stone and metal and have shingle rooftops to help keep the elements away. One can find all manner of equipment and crates scattered around these buildings, but inside are all the tools any blacksmith could every want!

The interior of these smithies are almost always a more open format. You can find anvils, workbenches, and the superheated forge near the backs of the buildings that constantly spew molten metal down numerous chutes! These smithies have existed for many, many years, and their masters are always on the lookout for talented apprentices. This is where Garrin comes in!

Garrin

Garrin is a dark-skinned sellen of a more average height and slightly above average build. Having grown up in Ankila, he is quite used to life in a desert and had a mostly uneventful childhood compared to Vianna and Feera. At a younger age, he ended up becoming an apprentice one of the local blacksmiths and focused intently on his Apprenticeship in order to support himself, but being a blacksmith was never his main focus.

Far away from Ankila, there are cities that have begun to embrace advanced technologies that Ankila can only begin to dream of. There are towering buildings made of metal, automated machines assisting with mass production, and, most importantly, colossal airships! The advent of these airships made waves across the entirety of the globe. They revolutionized travel and inspired an entire generation, and Garrin was one of those inspired!

Since a young age, Garrin had an infatuation with the concept of flight. After hearing so many stories, it was only natural that his greatest dream would be to become an ace pilot, but it’s important to note that he has no interest in the large airships. What he wants to pilot are the smaller, more nimble aircraft that can run laps around their larger brethren. Everything that he has done has been to further this dream of flight, and not one day goes by that he doesn’t think about what his life could be like.

Alongside his blacksmithing and dreams of flight, however, is his most unique trait. At a young age, Garrin began to experiment with a curious device. A slingshot. He started off using it as a toy, but, as he grew older, he continued to use it for fun on the side. He practiced for many days each week and eventually became an expert sniper. There are few in the city that can compete with his aim, and although he doesn’t pursue his slingshot as heavily as his other pursuits, he still maintains his incredible sniper skills in case they one day become needed!

Aiya

Garrin’s most important relationship is, without a doubt, his relationship with Aiya. One day, by random chance, Garrin met Aiya and was almost instantly smitten by her. The two interacted several more times, but Garrin quickly worked up the courage to ask Aiya out on an actual date! So many years later, they are very firmly in a relationship, much to Vianna’s annoyance. Garrin cares for Aiya deeply and thinks of her with most of the things he does. Whenever she needs something, he doesn’t hesitate to drop what he’s doing, even when it involves keeping an eye on her bigger sister.

Vianna

While Aiya loves Garrin to death, Vianna is quite the opposite. Even though he is her sister’s boyfriend, she despises Garrin, and he’s not exactly her biggest fan either. From Garrin’s perspective, Vi is an overly aggressive, impulsive, childish sellena. He sees her outbursts and destructive behavior as dangerous and harmful to Aiya, but he refuses to get in between the two sisters and potentially break Aiya’s heart. At Aiya’s behest, he continues to tolerate Vianna and keep an eye out for her best interests, but it doesn’t stop him from wondering just where Vianna’s overprotective nature really stems from…

Feera

Unlike Vianna, Feera doesn’t have any real problems with Garrin. While they aren’t fast friends, they’re at least friendly with each other and have met on multiple occasions, mostly related to work. Beyond that, their interactions are mostly contained to any group get togethers with Vianna and Aiya.

Harmonizer

Like Feera and Vianna, Garrin’s world comes crashing down when Aiya contracts the Violet Death, the incurable plague. Desperate to save the sellena he loves, he practically forces his way into Vianna and Feera’s group in order to tag along to the Tower of the Gods. While he isn’t overly enthused about working with Vianna, his only priority, over everything else, is to save Aiya, and he knows the Tower is their best chance. However, even in his wildest dreams, he hadn’t expected the Tower to open!

Seeing everything inside the Tower completely flipped Garrin’s view of the world. Suddenly, everything he thought was fact was brought into question, including the very reason behind their existence, but all of his existential dread is snuffed out by his overriding desire to save Aiya! Alongside Vianna and Feera, he will face the Guardians in order to win their cure and save Aiya’s future, but this quest is far larger than he can imagine, and it’ll take all of his skills and patience to see his happy ending realized!

Conclusion

And that brings another character focused piece to a close! I hope Garrin’s backstory was at least somewhat entertaining to read about, but we aren’t quite done yet! Next week, we’ll have one last character focused piece, but this character will be quite odd compared to this trio. Brace yourselves! Next week, we meet… Estria!
